Air conditioning system
Air conditioning system in your car is meant to make your driving more comfortable. This system heats the air in passenger compartment in cold weather. And during the hot summer days this systems cools the air down.
In most cases air conditioning system is very complicated but all such systems use just the same principle which really easy to understand.
To cool the air in air conditioning system of your car a special refrigerant is used. There are many different agents that can be used as refrigerants but the most usual these days are R12 and R134. When the pressure is applied to such agent it becomes hot and when the pressure is lowered it becomes cold. So in air conditioning system the following operations are used. First of all refrigerant in your system is compressed (so it becomes hot). Then by mean of different pipes and hoses the temperature of pressured refrigerant is lowered. After that the pressure is lowered and refrigerant becomes really cold and thus it cools the air inside your car.
No matter what culling system is installed in your car it consists of the following elements:
- Accumulator
- Air Ducting
- Compressor
- Condenser
- Cycling Switch
- Drier
- Expansion Device
- Orifice Tube
- Plumbing
- Evaporator.
To make the air hot in winter the heat of your car's engine is used. This heat is absorbed by the coolant in your radiator. Hot coolant circulates through the heater inside your car and thus heats the air.
But there is another thing that affects the efficiency of your car's air conditioning systems. It is the air flow - bad air flow can ruin even the most effective air conditioning system.
As long as the air conditioning in your car is very complex it needs a regular maintenance.
Following procedures are usually performed:
- Checking of the radiator coolant level, hoses, pressure cap and thermostat
- Checking for the presence of any leaks or damages
- Testing tension of the A/C compressor belt (its condition is also carefully checked)
- As for the heating system of your car following procedures are performed:
- Testing of the cooling system pressure
- Comparing the A/C pressure to manufacturer's recommendations
- Testing the A/C system for refrigerant leaks
